KMTIL suggests the drivers study the traffic system and use safety speed limit suitable for the road surface to reduce risky traffic accident.

KMITL comments that the motorway is the efficient road of international quality that the drivers can drive at high speed, however, the effective condition of vehicles, drivers, and environment must be considered for the proper speed, absolutely, the drivers must follow the traffic signs and speed limit to reduce the risky accident, too.

Vice Prof.Dr. Aekkachai Sumalee, the director of the Smart Cities Research Center (CRSC), KMITL, said that from the GPS’s data of the excessive high driving speeds on many roads of Thailand which indicates that the cause of  accidents on motorway comes from driving of over speed limit, he would like to tell that motorway is the high effective highway of international quality connecting to many provinces and the high speed driving can be done, however, practically, the drivers must have their awareness of the capacity of each roads and vehicles, readiness of selves, and environments. Moreover, the drivers must follow safety speed, and traffic signs to reduce risky accident. Remarkably such the statistics information does not directly imply that driving on the motorway or other highways is not safe, but it is the statistics able to be applied for suggestion of more safety on the traffic.

However, from the collection of the GPS’s traffic data for trucks and buses, it found that the speeds of trucks and buses for the last 4 months of 2017 related to the traffic accident reduction for about 50% around the areas of the Central, Northeastern, Northern, Eastern, and Western parts of Thailand could show the importance of application of technology to control driving behaviors and to develop transportation database to meet higher safety. For the traffic accident statistic of Thailand from WHO or the World Health Organization that shows at high level of accident, it must additionally do more statistical and academical comparative consideration to define the policy and correction frames for the effective solutions.

Actually, for the statistic of illegal high speeds of truck’s and bus’s drivers for the year of 2017, it is the recorded data for every 2 minutes and it could offer the summarization of rather high accuracy. However, for the group of vehicles using illegal speeds, it appears at about 7 -8 percent of the total one in the system; it will be more processed for the driving behavior control to prevent repeating of illegal driving and to protect any traffic accident more effectively to serve more safety to traffic users.
